Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has acknowledged lapses in its content moderation standards, according to government sources. The platform has also assured the government that it will comply with Indian laws and function under regulations.
The sources further confirmed to ANI that the social media platform has blocked approximately 3,500 pieces of sexually explicit content and deleted more than 600 accounts, after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) raised concerns over obscene content on the platform.

Recently, the government sent a notice to the Chief Compliance Officer of X Corp, India Operations, seeking a detailed action taken report within 72 hours over immediate compliance or prevention of hosting, generating, publishing, sharing, or uploading sexually explicit content.
The notice had highlighted the misuse of AI-based services, like Grok and x AI’s other services, for generating sexualised content and posting on X.
